ASTRA-UNIQA increases by 82% on motor and stagnates on life in 3Q/2008
ASTRA-UNIQA Asigurari has ended the first nine months of the year with an increasing underwriting volume, 79% up compared to the same period of 2007 to over RON 500 million, the gross written premiums volume reaching almost RON 496 million. Meanwhile, the company reported a profit of RON 1.31 million.
Claims paid by ASTRA in the analyzed period exceeded RON 201 million, 71% above the level recorded at the end of September 2007, this trend being a result of the increasing number of insured events assigned to the general insurance segment, the company announced. Motor insurance increased to almost 80% of the total - RON 400 million of which RON 118 million from the MTPL class - growing by 81.82% from the level recorded in the first nine months of the previous year.
On the aviation segment, gross written premiums reached RON 7.03 million for CASCO, more than 103.5% in comparison to the same period of 2007 and RON 8.4 million for third party liability for civil aircraft, compared to RON 5.9 million, as ASTRA reported one year ago. Other significant increases were recorded for property insurance - 153.8%, general third party liability - 129.3%, and CMR insurance - 92.6%. Life insurance were maintained at the level recorded in the first nine months of 2007, gross premiums underwritten reaching RON 4.91 mil. ASTRA, the ninth insurance company in Romania in 2007, after the underwritings' volume, aims a 52% growth in 2008 compared with last year, to EUR 170 million, and also achieving a profit of EUR 1 mil.
Developing voluntary insurance lines, the bancassurance partnerships in the system and new distribution channels, as well as launching new products of life insurance and health are the main targets set by the company in its strategy for 2008.
