INTERAMERICAN Romania's business, up 21% in the first half

Frans van der ENTINTERAMERICAN Romania ended the first half of the year with a total volume of gross written premiums of RON 44.29 million, growing 21% as compared with same period of 2007. Also, the company posted a gross negative financial result of RON 5 million, but the loss was slightly lower than that of the first half of 2007 of RON 5.23 million.

"This interim financial result confirms the strategy of Dutch group EUREKO to continually invest in companies located in markets with enormous development potential, as is INTERAMERICAN Group in Romania. We will continue to foster the development of health and life insurance in order to strengthen our positions held in these market segments ", Frans van der ENT, CEO, INTERAMERICAN and Member of Board at INTERAMERICAN Pensions has declared.

The most significant growth in INTERAMERICAN's portfolio was realized by the health insurance segment, respectively 43%, where the insurer keeps placing one of the leading positions with a volume of RON 5.17 million in gross written premiums.

Underwritings for life insurance segment recorded a 12% growth compared with H1/2007, rising to RON 18.41 million. During the analyzed period, unit-linked insurance recorded a growth of approximately 16%, exceeding RON 2.48 million.
Also, INTERAMERICAN underwritings related to the non-life segment have amounted to over RON 25.87 million, up 28% from the first half of 2007.

The Dutch EUREKO, the majority owner of INTERAMERICAN Romania Group announced last week EUR 10.8 billion underwritings for the first half of 2008, increasing by 26% as compared with the similar period of 2007, due, mainly , to performance in health insurance. Meanwhile, group net profit fell to EUR 124 million, 78% below the level posted after the first six months of the previous year, of EUR 561 million. Taking into account the turmoil currently faced by the financial markets worldwide, the group's performance was satisfactory, according to statements made by the groups' representatives.
