ISC: Over 92% of the claims on MTPL have already been paid
Insurers have completed and paid 92% of all claim files opened on the MTPL segment in 2009 (341,462 out of the 371,342 cases), said the Insurance Supervisory Commission (ISC), which has centralized last years' data. The remaining 8% are in various stages of settlement.
"We are permanently analyzing the activity of companies regarding the solving of claims files, modifying, whenever we think it is necessary, the regulations in force, in order for them to handle the files correctly and fast", said ISC President, Angela TONCESCU.
Note that the total number of complaints received by ISC in 2009 was a little over 6,000, namely 6,236. Regarding customers' complaints for MTPL insurance in 2009, for the nearly 5.7 million MTPL contracts issued there were received less than 4,000 complaints (Editor's note: That is under 0.07% of total number of MTPL contracts!).
Meanwhile, the value of the average claim for MTPL insurance has grown, in 2009 compared to 2008, with over 20% (from approx. RON 3,700 in 2008, to almost RON 4,500 in 2009), and the claims paid - by almost 30% (RON 1.53 billion, compared to RON 1.19 billion in Q1/2009), according to ISC.
On the Motor Hull insurance segment insurers paid claims of nearly RON 3 billion, up 18% from 2008, when the total volume had been less than RON 2.5 billion. This undesirable evolution has occurred under the circumstances of a 6% decrease of the volume of insurance premiums written on this segment.
Claims reserves have also increased significantly for the MTPL segment (+28%), from RON 717 million at the end of 2008, to RON 921 million at the end of 2009. Meanwhile, on the Motor Hull segment, the growth was almost 18%, from RON 175 million to RON 206 million.
