LLOYD's has its eyes on Romania
LLOYD's intends to expand its activities in Central and Eastern Europe,
Romania being an important point in this strategy.
"For next year we plan to enter the markets in Romania, Hungary and Turkey",
declared Enrico BERTAGNA, Regional Manager for Europe.
"LLOYD's is extremely well represented in the Western Europe but we are
aware that Easter Europe offers many substantial development opportunities",
he added.
In this context, LLOYD's will request a license to operate in the Czech
Republic in the last semester of 2008, in order to start its activity
at the beginning of next year.
The Continental Europe is the third largest market for LLOYD's after
USA, with 40% of the turnover and Great Britain, with 25% of the operations.
In Central Europe LLOYD's is present only in Poland, after receiving
their license last year.
In 2007, the London-based company which is present in over 70 countries
made EUR 4.82 billion in profit, a combined rate of 84%, while the
profitability of investments jumped by 21%, reaching EUR 2.55 billion.
According to a study published by LLOYD's Market Intelligence at the
end of 2007, the Czech Republic, together with Austria, Poland, Romania
and Hungary are among the key markets in this region that hold a significant
development potential for the British company.
