Life insurance market fell by one percentage point
MDL 24 million (EUR 1.4 million) totaled the gross premiums underwritten by insurance companies operating on the life insurance segment in Moldova in the first half of this year, representing about 5.5% of the total profile market.
Compared to the first six months of 2009, there has been recorded a decrease in business of about 1%. Considering MDL depreciation against the euro, the life insurance market dynamics were -14%, in the analyzed period.
Gross indemnizations paid by insurers totaled MDL 7.18 million (EUR 430,000), a decrease in absolute value of about MDL 43,000.
In the Republic of Moldova, at the moment, there are only two companies specialized on the life insurance segment: GRAWE-CARAT (which owns a 90% market share on this segment) and SIGUR-ASIGUR, both companies generating 98% of the total business.
Also, at market level, 93% of underwritings made from life insurance were generated by "traditional" insurance, the remaining 7% of the portfolio being completed by pensions and annuities insurance, respectively by accidents and illness policies additional to the life ones.
