Mandatory households insurance law, to be voted this year

The draft law on mandatory insurance of households will be voted by the Chamber of Deputies this year.

"We have both the amending of the Law no. 32/2000 with refer to harmonization with the European Directives and the enacting of the law on households mandatory insurance on this legislature agenda", Aurel GUBANDRU, President of the Commission for Budget, Finance and Banks from the Chamber of Deputies at the regional seminar organized by ISC - Insurance Supervisory Commission in Romania.

Although enacting this normative act was slowed down by the election campaign that preceded the local elections, the quoted official announced that it will be voted by the end of this legislature, case in which the law could become operational from mid-2009.
"Mandatory households insurance is actually a social protection insurance", Angela TONCESCU, ISC President has declared.

The draft was adopted by the Government in August 2007, being sent to Parliament for debate in the emergency procedure.
After approving the draft in the Senate in November 2007, it remained to be discussed in the Chamber of Deputies, which is the decision-making forum.

According to the provisions contained in this draft, mandatory insurance will cover three basic risks Romania is exposed to: earthquake, flood and land sliding. The insurance premium proposed in the normative act is between EUR 10 and EUR 20, depending on the type of construction.
