Mediation market in Romania reaches RON 1 billion
 According to INSURANCE Profile estimation, the insurance mediation
market recorded a total income of EUR 272.41 million (RON 1 billion)
during the first half of the current year. With more than 84% of
mediated premium from motor insurance (Motor Hull and MTPL, added
up), the national mediation branch has increased between January-June
2008 compared with the similar period of the last year with almost
40%. Also, the insurance mediation market represents, more than 22.6% from the gross written premium by the Romanian insurance industry.
During the first half of 2008, life insurance mediation market overcome an amount of EUR 4.56 million (RON 16.74 million) representing 1.67% from the total of insurance brokerage market. The non-life mediation class represents more than 98.3% for the total amount of the whole mediation market: EUR 267.85 million (RON 983.26 million). Property insurance (fire, allied perils and damages to property, added-up) share about 8.5% from the brokers business. The premiums mediated from the mentioned insurance class amounted during the first half of 2008, more than EUR 23.05 million (RON 84.62 million).
Another significant insurance segment for the mediation business, as rephering to the share of this class in the total amount of premiums written by the insurance companies, was the general liability class, amounting more than EUR 8.62 million (RON 31.5 million). Also, the mediated premium from this line represented more than 3.1% from the market and almost 55% from the premium written from this insurance field.
