Moldavian insurers underwrote EUR 41.4 million in the first nine months
EUR 41.4 million, the equivalent of MDL 682.6 million, totaled the insurance market in January-September 2010, according to financial data published by the National Commission of Financial Market in Moldova.
Compared to the first nine months of the previous year, the market nominally rose in European currency with 5.3% (in the first nine months of 2009, the insurance market counted EUR 39.4 million - MDL 593.5 million).
In real terms, in national currency, the insurance market increased by 6.5% (108% was the consumer price index in September 2010 compared to September 2009, according to the National Statistics Bureau of the Republic of Moldova).
Thus, in total underwritings recorded at market level, 94.8% were related to general insurance (EUR 39.3 million) and 5.2% - to life insurance (EUR 2.1 million).
On insurance classes, motor insurance had the best sold insurance policies, 24.8% of the market's total being generated by compulsory MTPL insurance, 19.6% by the external mandatory one (Green Card) and 18.1% by the voluntary one (Motor Hull).
Other important classes in the consolidated insurance market portfolio of the Republic of Moldova were represented by fire and allied perils insurance (6.9% - EUR 2.8 million), health insurance (5.2% - EUR 2.2 million), aviation insurance (4.9 % - EUR 2 million) and other property insurance (3.2 % - EUR 1.3 million).
In the approved and paid claims chapter, the total volume reached EUR 13.4 million (MDL 221.3 million), decreasing (based on the exchange rate differences) by 5% in comparison with January - September 2009. The large share of motor claims in the total of the market can be noticed - 84.3%, staggered so: Motor Hull - 43.2% (EUR 5.8 million), compulsory MTPL - 28.1% (EUR 3,8 million), Green Card - 13% (EUR 1.7 million).
