Radu VASILESCU is the new President of UNITA (UNIQA Romania)
Radu VASILESCU, ex-CEO of Romanian ING Pension Fund, was named President of UNITA (the future UNIQA Romania), the insurance company that has recently been taken by the Austrian UNIQA, market sources have stated exclusively for 1asig.ro portal.
VASILESCU quit from ING Pensii, the Romanian mandatory private pension market leader, at the end of July 2008, and has been named last night in Vienna the new President of UNITA, the sixth big general insurance company on the local market. This will be made official during this afternoon, the sources have further mentioned.
Radu VASILESCU is 43 years old, he has a various background with management positions on the local financial market - private pensions, banking, leasing. Before running ING Pension Fund, he worked at BRD Sogelease, Citibank and Alpha Bank.
UNITA was taken from VIENNA Insurance Group by UNIQA this autumn, after VIG was forced to sell this company in order to avoid an excessive market concentration. According to the specialized magazine Insurance PROFILE, UNITA was on the sixth place on the general insurance market at the end of H1/2008, having gross written premiums of EUR 72.7 million and a 6.13% market share.
