Romania ranks third in underwritings and second in claims on the motor segment in CEE
The total volume of underwritings on motor insurance (MTPL, Motor Hull and Green Card, added up) recorded by the Romanian insurance market in 2009 (EUR 1.32 billion) has placed our country, at the level of the year 2009, on the third position in Central and Eastern Europe space, shows the Special Report "CEE, Russia & CIS INSURANCE MARKETS 2009".
The first two positions were occupied by Poland (EUR 2.93 billion) and the Czech Republic (EUR 1.53 billion). After Romania, on the 4th and 5th place, there were placed the Hungarians (EUR 785 million) and the inhabitants of Slovakia (EUR 568 million). The lowest volumes of underwritings in motor insurance were registered in Estonia (EUR 62 million), Macedonia (EUR 44 million) and Albania (EUR 35 million).
If in underwritings Romania ranked third (EUR 1.06 billion), in the claims chapter, our country has occupied the second position, after Poland (EUR 2.17 billion), but ahead of the Czech Republic (EUR 828 million), Hungary (EUR 465 million) and Slovenia (EUR 400 million). Motor insurance market of Central and Eastern Europe region, in 2009, was of EUR 9.49 billion, down 4.8% compared with 2008, when it stood at EUR 9.97 billion.

The release date of the next special report, with information from the first half of this year, is October 24, 2010, during the annual meeting of insurers and reinsurers in Baden-Baden, at the Baden-Baden XPRIMM Symposium.
