TRIGLAV 9-months gross premium income up 10% and profits down by 48%
ZAVAROVALNICA Triglav Group, Slovenia's largest insurer, reported a 10% annual rise in its nine-month gross premium income to EUR 772.3 million, in line with its earlier estimates, according to Slovene Press Agency. The company sees its group premium income standing at EUR 1 billion in 2008.
TRIGLAV, the parent company, posted EUR 589.3 million in gross premium income in the first nine months, up by 9% compared to the respective period last year. At the same time, company posted an annual 48% decline in its pre-tax profit to EUR 29.2 million in the first nine months on a preliminary basis, mainly due to an increase in claims. In the first nine months, the claims paid out by the insurer rose by 16% to EUR 305 million, due to a summer spell of thunderstorms, said the company.
TRIGLAV CEO Andrej KOCIC said that the global financial crisis has already affected the company's investment plans, while it has specially hurt its life insurance sector. Moreover, ZAVAROVALNICA Triglav's management has decided to change the company's strategy for the next three years in view of the global financial uncertainty.
