The "malus" applied to only 5% of the MTPL insured
The share of drivers to whom the malus coefficient was applied is around 5-6%. Thus, since the beginning of 2010, (editor's note: since the implementation of the bonus-malus system), only a little over 5% of vehicle owners who purchased a MTPL policy were placed in the malus class. This percentage will not have any significant evolutions in the next period, either, according to estimates from insurance companies' leaders present at the event XPRIMM ANNUAL FORECAST MEETING, held on January, 20, in Bucharest.
The introduction of this system will have important benefits for both insurers and insured. "The positive effects will be visible starting 2011", estimates Iulius Alin BUCSA, General Manager, EUROINS.
To benefit from the effects of this system, insurers must develop informational campaigns. Thus, "profile companies need to popularize the effects of this system, to notify customers about the way in which the notice is made". Thus, "in case of an accident with small damages, the malus coefficient could be higher than the damage", said Catalin STROE, Director of Sales and Marketing Division, ASIROM.
The web-portal www.asigurareamasinilor.ro aims to help the insured become more informed about the changes that await them in 2010. In addition, the site offers an application that helps drivers see in which bonus or malus class they are included from January 1, 2010, as well as the increase/reduction their MTPL policy tarrif will have.
