UNSAR: Between 2005-2010, the MTPL tarrifs increased 3 times, the claims - 8 times
The MTPL policies tarrifs have increased over the 2005-2010 over three times, while the claims paid by insurers on the MTPL segment had a multiplying factor of 7-8. Thus, if in 2005, the MTPL claims volume amounted to RON 441 million, for the end of this year, insurers estimate a value of over RON 3 billion.
This is one of the conclusions of the press conference held on February 8, current year, by UNSAR, in response to accusations that circulated recently at the address of the profile companies and of the ISC by ASSAI - the Association of Independent Motor Repair-Shops Societies.
"Among the main reasons why MTPL prices rose, there are included: price increases of motor parts and labor force, fleet renewal and increased frequency of accidents, extending assumed liabilities", said Cristian CONSTANTINESCU, President of UNSAR. Thus, in the last 5 years, the value of liabilities for MTPL policies has multiplied 6.6 times for material damages (from EUR 76,316 in 2005, to EUR 500,000 in 2010), and almost 20 times in the case of indemnisations for body injuries (from EUR 127,194 in 2005, to EUR 2.5 million in 2010).
In terms of claims growth, the activity on the MTPL segment brought considerable losses to profile companies. Only in 2009, the losses recorded by insurers on this segment could rise to over EUR 150 million. In this context, insurers have taken steps to control costs with products and services provided by repair shops units, through negotiations with each repair shop of labor tarrifs, and by implementing systems such as AUDATEX, DAT, EUROTAX, recognized and used at international level.
UNSAR represents the interests of 26 members, who own 95% of the insurance market.
