VIG - a 34% increase in Romania
 The Romanian companies members of VIENNA Insurance Group (VIG) recorded, in the third quarter of 2008, a more than 34% increase of the volume of underwritings, compared to the same period a year earlier.
"Romania is one of the core markets of VIG. As an insurance company specializing in retail, VIG is in no way affected by the unfavorable circumstances, as the growth of our companies in this region remains unchallenged in the third quarter of the year 2008", Gunter GEYER, CEO, VIENNA Insurance Group, said, referring to the positive development of the VIG companies on the local market.
With a volume of written premiums of RON 956.8 million (EUR 263 million), OMNIASIG recorded an over 46% increase in the first nine months of 2008. Also, in the analyzed period of time, ASIROM's underwritings were 21% higher than in Q3/2007, their value reaching RON 573.85 million (EUR 157.74 million).
VIG is present on the Romanian market through the companies OMNIASIG, OMNIASIG Asigurari de Viata and ASIROM.
Also, starting September this year, VIG took over the majority stake of BCR Asigurari de Viata and BCR Asigurari, from the Romanian Commercial Bank (BCR), the Romanian subsidiary of ERSTE Bank.
