We are going to have a modern and competitive agriculture until 2013
 "ICAR aims to launch a more than necessary debate on agricultural risk management in our country. The development of the Romanian agriculture is essential and this economic environment must be approached differently taking into consideration the climatic changes and their effect upon agriculture. That is why insurance represents an important instrument both for developing and sustaining the agriculture and the protection of the agricultural producers and farmers", Gheorghe ALBU, State Secretary in the Agricultural and Rural Development Ministry (MADR), has stated in the ICAR 2008 Forum opening.
"Romania has a big agricultural power, takes the 6th place in the world and its potential is extraordinary, therefore we should try to capitalize it as much as we can. In the new European context, an active crop insurance system development is necessary, given that in Romania the agricultural insurance level is four times smaller than the European average", the official has added.
The solutions for agriculture development are adopting a common ground between insurers, private public partnerships, reinsurers' active involvement and also developing some complex insurance policies which should cover, besides agricultural risks, also the agricultural producers' and farmers' interests and offer them protection.
"We are supporting ICAR Forum along with the promise that the Ministry will take into consideration the ideas and the proposals in order to raise an efficient system which is supposed to bring the Romanian agriculture to the standards it deserves in a relatively short time, around 2013", the MADR State Secretary has further stated.
ICAR - The International CAtastrophic Risks Forum, the most important European event dedicated to catastrophic risks took place on the 14th of October at the Parliament Palace. This year's edition was dedicated to agricultural risk management and it hosted over 300 leaders and specialists who have registered in order to discuss about the measures that must be taken for protecting agriculture from the climatic changes impact.
